Aunt Leah’s Place has been helping children and mothers in Metro Vancouver for over thirty years. Aunt Leah’s has two main objectives that target the ‘entry’ and ‘exit’ points of the foster care system. First, Aunt Leah’s helps low-income families maintain custody of their children, therefore helping to reduce the number of children and youth coming into the permanent care of the child welfare system. Second, Aunt Leah’s works with foster youth readying to ‘age out’, giving support similar to what parents give their own children transitioning to adulthood. Aunt Leah’s Place provides holistic support in three key areas: housing; education, employment, and life skills; food security and health. In just this past year alone, Aunt Leah’s Place has helped more than 350 youths, mothers, and children.
